Baden Marathon 2005: Kilometer 2

So the route eventually took a right onto Kriegstrasse (Kriegs Street) that eventually lead out of the center of the city to the neighboring town of Durlach. This road had two underpasses that we had to navigate, one of the few places during the route where the elevation changed.

I was fairly consistent with my pace, but it was still cold 4°C/40°F at 9 a.m. when we started (reported later in the newspaper). I was wearing my long running shorts, running shirt and a long sleeve running shirt. I was still kind of cold as I ran down this street as we were running directly into a rather stiff wind.

Did I say it was cold? Obviously this did not effect the annual body painting contest. Here are three contestants (shown at the finish line):

And NO they are not wearing any shirts, YES he is wearing a G-string, YES she really ran without ANY shirt. This is considered a form of "art" in Germany. And YES they all are totally fit, I was checking out their running form during the race ;-) What else can I say, was very noticeable that they were freezing to death before the race.
